Creedence Clearwater Revival became one of the top rock bands of the 1960s by successfully merging the hippie sounds of San Francisco with music styles from the South and the Bayous of Louisiana. With lyrics driven by the passions of lead singer John Fogerty, the band became a leading figure in the anti-Vietnam war movement of the mid-60s with classic protest songs such as "Who'll Stop The Rain" and the greatest protest song ever written, "Fortunate Son".
