A 90s metal band that happened to be from Seattle, Alice In Chains became a grunge band shortly after the success of their second album, Dirt. The band became an incredible mainstream success and built a large fan-base, despite never winning the favor of critics who couldn't understand the depth of their sound or the emotional nuances of lead singer Layne Staley's voice and lyrics. The band broke up shortly after Staley's death, though they did re-form with a new lead singer for a farewell tour in 2006.
